Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State on Monday presented 25 Hilux Vans fitted with modern communication gadgets worth N232.96 million to security formations in the state. Abubakar ,who presented the keys to the vehicles to the representatives of the security agencies, said that the country, particularly the North Eastern region had been bedeviled by insurgency before the advent of the present administration.
Abubakar said that the vehicles were jointly purchased by the state government and its 20 local government councils. He said that it was the responsibility of the government to provide security agencies with equipment to enable them perform.
gana1Abubakar described the current global insecurity challenges as sophisticated which needed modern weapons to counter, hence the provision of modern vehicles and equipment. He said that 10 of the vehicles would be allocated to the 33Artilery Brigade, nine vehicles to the Bauchi State Police Command.
The governor said that the Directorate of State Security Services (DSSS) and the Zone 12 of the Nigeria Police had five vehicles and one vehicle respectively. He called on the members of the public to assist the security agents with vital information to enable them perform.
Abubakar called on the people to form vigilante groups and report any suspicious persons and luggage to traditional rulers and the nearest security formation for prompt action. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.Tukur Buratai, while speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, said that the military authorities would buy more equipment to complement efforts being made by various organisations.
Buratai warned against the misuse of the vehicles for administrative purposes, stating that they were meant for “operational activities.”
